Our Vision and Statement

When Jesus ministered on earth His most repeated commands to His followers were all about love. He commanded them to:

Love God

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind and with all your soul.”
Matthew 22:37

Love One Another

“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love another.”
John 13:34

Love People

“Love your neighbour as yourself.”
Mark 12:31

At the Mission we seek to fulfil these commands through four big commitments:

Devote our lives to Jesus
Build a family where all ages thrive
Share a message of hope
Serve our community in love

These four aims summarise everything that we are called to do as a church. We are passionate about fulfilling these purposes and believe that when we do these things then the Church can be a phenomenal power for good in the world.

To devote our lives to Jesus

A church is built on people’s individual relationships with Jesus. The Mission is a group of people who have discovered that Jesus is the Son of God and accepted His secure salvation. We are a people who recognise that we have been greatly blessed by a generous God.

From a heart of gratitude, we have in return devoted our lives to following Jesus. Our experience is that the more we dedicate ourselves to Jesus, the more fulfilling our lives become.

To Build a Family where all ages Thrive

If you asked any member of our church to describe the Mission you would be very likely to hear ‘it’s a family church’ in reply. We believe that people of all ages have a place in church, from babes in arms to living legends in wheel chairs. Everyone matters, everyone is important and everyone has something to offer.

The Church is a family

“You should be like one big happy family, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds.”
1 Peter 3:8

In a family you care for everyone and you expect family members to look out for one another. You deliberately seek out good for one another, you protect one another and ultimately you love one another. That is what our build mission is about; loving one another.

To Share a message of hope

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”
1 Peter 3:15

In a rather heated discussion with the crowd Jesus made an interesting comparison. He says that He has come to speak the truth and that this truth will set people free, whereas the Devil is the ‘father of lies’ and a ‘murderer from the beginning’. (John 8:31-47)

Truth brings life and freedom, lies bring slavery and death. The lies of the enemy are deadly;

Your value as a person depends on your physical beauty’,
‘Your happiness is the only thing that matters so it’s OK to walk over others’,
‘People who are different from you aren’t real people’.
‘You are unlovable,’
You are unwanted’.

Lies like these and many more are corrosive and binding in our world, they take whole generations captive and the only liberation is the truth that Jesus came to proclaim. The message we have leads to life and freedom. It is not about getting people to agree with us to feel better about ourselves it is about connecting people to the truth that sets us free.

“Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.  But who can ask Him to save them unless they believe in Him?  And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him?  And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells him?”
Romans 10:13-14

To Serve our Community in love

Jesus has a special concern for the poor. His word is full of reminders to take care of the most vulnerable and overlooked people in society; widows, orphans, foreigners, the sick…He talks about helping the poor again and again. It pleases Him immensely when we lavish love on those who cannot repay us in kind, and He promises that the blessings He will give us will far outweigh anything we lose out on by helping others.

‘let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.’
Matthew 5:16

As a Church we want to fulfil Jesus expectation that our faith and love would turn into visible actions that feed the poor, clothe the cold, defend the vulnerable and embrace the lonely, and that we become a force for good that strengthens the community around us.
